Says Craig Kensley, Executive Director of GrowZA Social Investment Agency - "At GrowZA, we are thrilled to be part of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, an initiative that embodies the practical public-private partnerships to drive innovation and social progress. This competition not only highlights the incredible talent and creativity of our young people but also emphasizes the critical importance of STEM education in addressing our most pressing water challenges. We are proud to support these brilliant young minds and look forward to seeing the transformative solutions they bring to the global stage in Stockholm."
The Power of Public-Private Partnerships
At GrowZA, we believe in the power of partnerships to drive real, impactful change. The SJWP is a shining example of what can happen when public and private sectors come together with a common goal. Our partnership with Xylem Africa, a global leader in water technology and the headline sponsor of SJWP, exemplifies how collaboration can spark innovation and inspire the next generation of water leaders.
Public-private partnerships like this are crucial for accelerating social progress. They bring together diverse expertise, resources, and perspectives to tackle challenges in ways that no single entity could achieve alone. By working hand in hand, we can create solutions that are not only innovative but also practical and scalable.
The Strategic Importance of STEM Education
The SJWP is more than just a competition; it’s a catalyst for change. It’s about nurturing a culture of scientific inquiry and technological advancement among young people. By engaging students in water research and innovation, we’re equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to drive economic development and ensure environmental sustainability. This is particularly important for Africa, where the need for skilled professionals in STEM fields is ever-growing.
Government Support: Enhancing Impact
We’re also thrilled to have the support of the South African Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS). Their involvement underscores the national importance of water security and sustainability. With DWS on board, we can ensure that the SJWP aligns with national priorities and reaches even more students across the country. This partnership enhances the credibility and impact of the SJWP, making it a truly transformative initiative.
The Road to Stockholm: Where Innovation Meets Opportunity
The South African National Finals on June 7, 2024, will be a celebration of innovation and creativity. The winner will earn the chance to compete on a global stage at the International Finals in Stockholm. This is not just a platform to showcase their work but also an incredible opportunity to network with industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers from around the world.
GrowZA will be there to cheer on our young innovators and represent Mzanzi. Our presence in Stockholm highlights our commitment to supporting young talent and promoting sustainable water solutions on an international level.
